Although not one of the oldest racecourses in the United Kingdom, Towcester has increasing fought its way through countless challenges to emerge as one of the leading sporting centres in the country. With less than one hundred years in operation, it has even surpassed other facilities that were established several centuries earlier.
The inaugural meeting occurred in 1928. The Towcester Racecourse Company was instituted under the instructions of Lord Hesketh, and it was on his personal estate of Easton Neston, that the racecourse was set up, and the earliest grandstand erected. While the first few sporting meetings were not exactly laudable, events at Towcester gradually gained momentum as the newly set up amenity won the admiration of racing stars and enthusiasts to become a notable British racing site.
With ever-increasing spectators, the racecourse has continued to attract remarkable media attention from all over the globe.
In 2004 the Easton Neston property, including the race course was put up for sale. Hesketh later opted to retain possession of the racecourse and sold only a part of the property to a Russian-born entrepreneur. Despite these developments, the popularity of the racing grounds has not waned in the ensuing years.
On 7 November 2013, Tony McCoy had his 4,000th career victory at Towcester, riding Mountain Tunes to emerge triumphant in the Weatherbys Novices' Hurdle.
A newly established greyhound racing track has been constructed inside of the racecourse, which opened in December 2014. The track has made the racing grounds a top favorite for racers, owners, and trainers all over Britain.
The greyhound amenity is used over a wide range of distances; 260 meters, 480 meters and two '6 bend' measurements, 655 meters and 686 meters. In early 2015, Towcester was categorized as a BAGS track for 2015.
Greyhound sporting meetings are held on Friday and Saturday evening hours, and Sunday afternoons. In January 2015, there were race meetings on a Thursday evening whilst the track awaited the much-needed planning go-ahead to conduct racing on Sundays. The famous track was also boosted up by Champion Trainer Mark Wallis shifting his base to Towcester.
